wheeeeeee

wheeeeeeee

water today was painful but very good (: jiaolian was talking about neuro muscle/motor adaptation and training for muscular endurance (in chinese) interesting. 14km today, including 3 2ks and 5 500s. real man, haven't had such monster training in a long while (: wind and water were challenging, good (:

colours today! you know when they announced canoeing, the whole team stood up together and cheered for bernice and eugene (and that's like 3 rows of people). very strong display of spirit, feel so proud of the team (:

optimism is gold dust in sports. yes, i'm picking up nicely for saturday (:

yay pay slip (: an active member of society that contributes 50 cents to cdac each month. went to botak jones for dinner with platoonmates, food was quite good and best part not oily (:

14 rounds in the morning again (: wheeee, still aching a bit from dragonboat yesterday, but at least the blisters from last week's trainings healed. wheee i regularly pull my right thigh muscle every monday morning while running. very strange, shall not even attempt to sprint at any point of time from now on. last week was ok, this week got tempted and sprinted a bit. tomorrow it will be fine (: very happy, the girls timings improved!

played ULTIMATE frisbee, then more frisbee, badminton, and light training. pullup count for the day 120 (:

wheeeeeee, exciting!

1. I'm ambi-dexterous when it comes to badminton and i've played it less than 10 times in my life.
2. I wear my watch on the right hand
3. smiley faces should be like this (:

whee

exciting, 4 days in a row this week (:

went back for mrs loh's farewell, wow sln's 4th year and going strong. haha, thinking back on those days, first GM we had, we asked ourselves, 'who are we? what do we do?, and 6 months later, still the same questions. was a time of great uncertainty, treading in unchartered territories. one of those experiences i treasure much

did 12km today, 4k, 2, 2, 4 500s. second 2k was 11.57, first one pb 11.16 (: and yes, the feeling of going faster faster! is highly addictive. ky and shenglin (and uglen) came back

"You have to force yourself to stay with rowing. If you put the first of your contact lenses in your eye, that is almost a sure guarantee that you won't go back to sleep. If you can get up and past the bed, then you will reach the kitchen. If you can reach the kitchen you can reach the front door. If you reach the front door, you will reach the car, and if you reach the car, you can reach the boathouse. Each step leads to the next one. You keep pushing yourself so that you will no quit." -- Tiff Wood

wheeeeeeeeee

11.27 again (: 9km today, wind was crazy but good i like. There's still time, those who want to fight will find their way.

wanted to do>50 pullups today (i.e. 51) before i left. So did that in 10 minutes. still got time, maybe 60, then 65. next target 75... then 85, lol then just whack did 103 (: Good training, all proper form (:

after several attempts at posting, here goes:

"Hi, we'll like to invite you for the time trial on 1st March"

That was on Saturday but it still hasn't registered in my mind,.

"Only gods and saints run around unafraid. And liars. This is a game. Somebody has to win. Somebody has to lose. And there is so much real in that." Nike

Honestly i'm feeling scared, but i know i'm going out there to do my best, row all out. Train like you're in second (or third or fourth...), but play like you're in first. Fear of failure, fear of disappointment? Perhaps, but not this time, not for me. Going in with nothing to lose.

so maybe this?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? ...Your playing small doesn't serve the world... It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. -Marianne Williamson

lol when i told the guy i've only been in my k1 for 2months, I couldn't believe what i just said. I'm going to take it like today's 2k, block out everything else, just focus and row for blood (:

thoughts

exciting (:

thank you to the j1s for letting me join in training today, enjoyed myself thoroughly. Come to think of it, with a much smaller batch naturally the team is more close knit, and could feel the team spirit. After training was fun, playing, chilling in the canteen, arm-wrestling lol just like what we used to do. Hope the J1s are having fun experiencing life not just as a canoeist, but as a Raffles Canoeing team (: Very good batch, humble, willing to learn, lots of potential

morning ran 14 rounds, good to run with the students/ students to take turns to run with me. impressive, one person managed to cut 2.4 timing by more than 1.5 mins within 4 weeks!

did my first ppt today, massive group of 66 girls, for weight and fat management. exciting (: for the record my BMI rounds up to 23, still trying to gain more weight to weight my boat better. yep, been a long time since TAF club days (: swimming, running, cycling, outdoor adventure, ncc, canoeing, dragonboat + couple of biathlons, vertical marathon and 42.195 (:

still waiting for my pay! yep, 8 weeks in school

Take 5

been working for 1.5 months already, time flies when you're having fun. and speaking of flying i think i must have leaped across some canyon, the great divide between students and the secret lives of teachers, hahahahha.

Take 5 was a big eye opener for me, to see how the pe teachers work and support each other, plus the very different mindsets and mentality of some students. interesting. V day out with canoobs, full team yo (: thanks hannah for chickytwo (: after that went to pasir ris, just zam my way to the park and saw mr tan, mr leong, ms chan and mr gopi... blowing balloons. lol ok so joined in, after lots of air expulsion felt light-headed, haha, anger management 101 ftw! blue balloon story and the electric fan (: Blowed balloons, tied balloons, carried signs in the dark and lots of stuff till like 2am. btw got my shower at 12+ or was it 1? slept at 2.30, woke up at 5, and at 5.30 i found time to run from the flat to the park (: wheeee, felt exactly like the marathon. on my feet till 2pm, again like marathon!

efficiency efficiency. sense of urgency. talking to the teachers really opened my eyes to things. Must say our canoeing team was one word: solid. from laos to training and team spirit, we did it (: You know what i think so long the motivation is right, mistakes can be accepted and corrected. if not, then well, tough luck really.

Canoe duathlon went smoothly on the whole, nice job there (: The j1 canoeists i saw today at the duathlon put up a spirited fight till the end. one pair got dq-ed for beaching at the wrong place, yea, not that similar situation but it brought back memories. and we will only get stronger (:

raffles row (:

Great pe lessons today, very different from yesterday's. Initially very apprehensive about TWO straight lessons of bball after yesterday um.. not so exciting class. anw yesterday was ggxx, morning run 8 rounds, 4 straight lessons, meeting, training 10k, then went home ate dinner and crashed at 9.30pm. was trying hard to keep awake and play diablo, but after 30mins buay tahan. yep, thought hard about it, changed strategy, and glad that the girls enjoyed themselves plus i had fun too (:
training's good, 2k 11.43, wind was imba strong from all directions but that's good training. learning to kuai hua now. Did 2 500s and acceleration in the pond which felt very good. adrenaline rush (:
yep, enjoying myself at work, wheeeeeee. Learning alot from the teachers. ahhh, and some more pple thought i've been working here all my life, haha (:
To most people Canoeing might just a sport or a cca, but to us it isn't. It's our sport, it's our cca, it's our life. We go through tough trainings together, tell ourselves to push on even under maximum stress and fatigue; we find out more about ourselves along the way. We learn to eat properly, not keep late nights, do our homework promptly because we know we must set aside time for training. Here, you reinforce values like disipline, perseverance, courage and dedication, to be there for training after training after training. On top of all this is the psychological commitment, your desire to train, to excel in the sport, not just about being the best, but most importantly being your best. To join the select group that canoeing has chosen and who have chosen to give their best in the pursuit of sport and self-development. It's not going to be easy and there are going to be disappointments, but we all know everyone will come out stronger; more prepared for the next race and the biggest race of all- life. And we know some things will last forever. The friendships and camaraderie of the Raffles Canoeing team.

Take5 tomorrow! pasir ris park

exciting (:

exciting, i'm back at work (: Very fun day today, ran 11 rounds total with 3 different people, attended coolio meeting on vision 2015, ultimate frisbee with 5A and 3K, lunch (we took mr seah's lorry there!), 3 straight lessons (Bak kwa session + extreme handball, volleyball/pickle/table tennis, conditioning (50+10 pushups, 50+15 crunches, pullups 2,4,6,4,2)

After that, training! did pyramid 10-20-30-40-40-30-20-10. wheeeeeeeee, feels great (: xiu hue is right my pyramid has no peak, next time 50! random planks with the j1s, then attempted leg raisers but must have pulled some muscle in my right quad running this morning, can't lift properly. Anw finished the great day with sets of 3 pullups. haha, maximum stress and pressure. 17 sets of 3 yay (:

wheeeee, another day tomorrow (:

I need a break from this festive season

can't wait to go back to school and training, this cny holiday is painful. the feasting and reunion is fun, but the lack of activity is killing me. my legs feel very uncomfortable without running/lunges/tuck jumps/SBJ (even sbj!), my torso is in need of twisting and rotation, and my upper body is calling for physical exertion. Not to mention the nervous system wants to play sports and run around. yea, coupled with hanging out and stuff (I do enjoy the company but yea that's about it), i need my life back!

i miss working

reunion

heart to heart, aspire to inspire, wise words i thought were from my time. went back for cny celebrations, lesser and lesser familiar faces, 'but the spirit still remains, it can never die'. the vibrancy and excitement of celebrations, unforgettable (: watched our partas perform lion dance (:

went for macs breakfast, was about to go off, then lulu replied to say she's in hospital. so to raffles hospital (the 6k a day rm), and guess what nadiah's working there! What an unlikely reunion for us. 7th year and going strong (:

thinking of the next crazy thing to do, exciting!

some thoughts on work (play!)

wheeeeeee

cny holiday begins! met up with the team for hannah's bday dinner (:

listening to mr michael talk about rjc 2015, wow, this is a place i want to come back to (:

getting my pay on the 15th of feb, meanwhile thanks dad for the allowance. hm.. the pe job is fun, really being paid to play. new found interest in bball (since those primary school days), ultimate frisbee and tag/touch rugby, much thanks to mr tan (: of course there's the usual handball floorball. napfa training is fun cos we're constantly thinking of new ways to help students achieve/improve a skill asap. Haven't got down to badminton, soccer and tennis yet but soon.

Besides taking responsibility of a class, anything from 14 girls to 28 girls, and occasionally boys, the greatest challenge is to make pe fun for them. I see this job as very important, cos what we do as pe teachers may potentially affect the way students manage their personal health and fitness long after they leave school. JC is after all the last 2 years of PE curriculum. Yep, so there's more to pe teachers than a whistle and clipboard.

Perks of the job include my own table, loaned laptop, free access to the gym, free access to the collection of sports books, morning sudoku challenge!, t-shirts and other cool stuff (free drinks for rt!) but what I value most is the interaction. There's a sense of satisfaction from watching the pe class enjoy themselves, playing and running around (: And to share experiences with those who want to hear. Learning alot from the pe teachers here, not just about pe and teaching, but outlook on life i guess.

yep, last thing, training. To continue canoeing is great.... to experience the training (pain), the self discovery process, personal challenge all over again, but at a higher intensity, is something i treasure. raffles row ftw (:

"When a person trains once, nothing happens. When a person forces himself to do a thing a hundred or a thousand times, then he certainly has developed in more ways than physical. Is it raining? That doesn't matter. Am I tired? That doesn't matter, either. Then willpower will be no problem."

Steve Prefontaine

rowing fast is fun (:

water was good today, 11.27 for 2k, lots to improve on the returning half. today i've discovered i can row light/hard and fast, but neither light nor hard and slow. somehow the slow frequency throws off my rhythm. figure out something. did a 500m, estimate 2.30 (:

exciting! week 6 of school!
