canoe camp last friday to saturday!
wheeeeeeeee
camp started out well, had icebreakers= captain's ball (: wheeeeee, ball sense deteoriates with improved canoeing skills (: then dinner! yes, food is very impt, everytime we try to talk abt camp inadvertently it'll turn to food! woohoo, then our J2s came back, yay (: but cos of that we delayed the rest of the team... and ximi, i like your style (: that's the way, no one is too big for the team.
guess what? hannah brought her sleeping bag to share with muddy... again! haha, throughout the night kept waking up to check the time, in the end woke up at 5.30am. wah, usually i'll just wake up at 6am for normal saturday trainings. yep, then breakfast (never knew skippy peanut butter comes in 1kg bottles!!) and it's off to macritchie!
the 1km we did was imba, ate the backwash from the guys' k2s. part of jiaolian's plan i suppose. did a few 500m and 250s. ketupat (k2 part-ner) we're getting the hang of starting burst!
did some imba monster sets, 12 pyramids, 2 x 50 pushups, 2 x 2 min plank then another 8 pyramid. selene came back to see us, she's still super powerful, though she was all dressed up and stuff, did the pushups with us! first set of 50 all the way! exciting! ahhh and the night before jasmine came back with the others, then in the afternoon too... have alot of respect for her; she brought the team through nationals and she still cares for the team.
anw back to school and lunchtime! wheeeeeeee
after that was sharing session, yay, ours J2 guys came back and also the J12s! that's like 10 years older than us. yea.. their batch had 7 girls and they got second. seeing their old pics (some black and white) and hearing abt their trainings was very inspiring. super pumped up lah. yep, and the age-old question, why did you join canoeing. quote the J12 capt, "cos i must have been a little psycho then" wheeeeeeee
then had the closing ceremony, first part was ouch. pushups be sacred thing to muddy. but anyhows i'm glad they all pulled through. next up was the run, the run of hopes and dreams. the team ran in a single file and the last person had to sprint to the front, shouting out why they joined canoeing (or their goals). total we ran 6 rounds around school, didn't feel that long at all. was pretty inspired by a couple, ky's "cos i'm sick and tired of seeing rj canoe getting third" and eugene's "cos nj said i couldn't win without them" joohui's "I row for my paddle, my boat, my team and my dream" prav i think who said "i join canoeing so i could be part of a team that i love" and of course everyone who said they rowed for the love of the team and for the challenge and discipline.
to nurture thinkers, leaders and pioneers, men and women with character, confidence and commitment, who will serve by leading and lead in serving whatever their chosen paths may be.
whatever their chosen paths may be
i really can't put a answer to that question, since sec 1 i knew i wanted to join canoeing after hearing about AKE from our part a ncos, then when they came back the following year and some of them joined canoeing, i knew my heart was set. then perhaps it's cos i think raffles (rgs, rjc) is the best thing ever and i want to pia my guts out for it. or maybe it's not really knowing why i joined, but knowing why i'm staying. cos no where else will i find a team like this, we train together, we play (club!) together, eat together (very very important)... and the dream that binds us all.
I think canoeing gives all of us a second chance. to finally realise those unfulfilled dreams. It could be looking for friendship (people who will stick with you no matter what), or winning a medal (perhaps tired of losing and being laughed at and looked down?) , or challenging yourself to go beyond your limits (personal satisfaction) dare i say this is a sport for people with dreams.
anw after that was closing, jing i'll remember your words, we must aspire to inspire before we expire (: seems like we're forever faced with the same challenges: lack of money, lack of resources and lack of support. but one thing i know for sure that nobody can ever take away from us is our spirit. and that's what makes the raffles canoeing team that special.
throughout the camp i saw that spirit within us and this is where i'm drawing my strength to fight on for raffles. now i know why i love the college anthem... because it means so much to me
College Anthem
When Stamford Raffles held the torch
That cast Promethean Flame
We faced the challenge of the day
To give our school a name
The eagle eye and gryphon strength
They led us to the fore
To reign supreme in ev'ry sphere
The sons of Singapore
Come heed the call Rafflesians all
And let our hearts be stirring
We'll do our best whate'er test
And keep our colours flying
Let comradeship and fervent hope
With one voice make us pray
Auspicium Melioris Aevi
With God to guide the way
today was monster training. apart from doing more than 1000 pushups and crunches and hitting 140 pullups total and 6min 23s team plank, i got gged big time. first time ever where my forearms refused to untighten themselves and i got owned damn badly, like 1 ipu (not talking abt pullups here) also ggxx. teammates i'm very thankful for you all, for everything you did today (:
muddy's promise is this saturday i'm not just rowing for 13, javine and myself. this one's for you teammates
ahhh and today was feeling a bit off in school. like the whole weekend for rahrah-ing and pumping up then come back to lessons and pple are just so nonchalent about stuff. during camp we talked about contesting for the championship, and how we'll give it our best shot with no regrets, go all out for that small chance of bringing glory to the school, and it's time for a change of the dynasties again. seems like some sort of secret life, haha, canoe cult. once you're back with the normal pple then you realise something's not quite right, and you just don't see that same fire within them.
for today at least muddy will agree with javine that it take discipline to train; but it takes even more discipline to stop training. thanks for catching me before i sunk too deep. training is highly addictive cos i know training will get me where i want to at the end of the next few months.
ahhh i can't imagine what life would be like after nationals. no more canoeing for muddy? now that's scary. can't imagine not being able to do a pullup or what if walking up stairs leave muddy totally wasted? ahhh the horrors. anw life is good with canoeing (:
